The Department of Labor Needs Input
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has asked ASTD members for help in updating information in its Occupational Information Network (O*NET), which is a free online database of hundreds of occupations. Specifically, DOL is seeking individuals with expertise in
distance learning to answer a brief survey about the tasks, work context, and knowledge requirements for this occupation. The information gathered will be used to populate the distance learning occupation in the O*NET database with data that is valid, reliable, and current.

Participation is voluntary; responses will remain strictly confidential and will be combined to describe the work of the occupation. Respondents will receive a framed certificate of appreciation from DOL.
Please use all of the information below, including description and alternate titles, to decide whether your professional background and work experience matches the O*NET occupation description.
Distance Learning Coordinators:  Coordinate day-to-day operations of distance learning programs and schedule courses.

Some other titles used for people performing this work might be:

·         Distance Learning Administrator
·         Distance Education Coordinator
·         Online Program Coordinator
·         Distance Learning Area Coordinator

You are eligible to participate if you have worked in the occupation for at least one year and have supervised or trained others in the occupation for a total of five years. If you would like to participate and meet the above criteria, please send your name, title, address, city/state/zip code, day time phone number, and your area of specialty in distance learning to: Chris Fine, Business Liaison, O*NET Operations Center:  cfine@onet.rti.org. August 2009: Alaska awarded Superstar Status - ASTD national congratulates our chapters Alaska for being a chapter membership SUPERSTAR. To achieve SUPERSTAR status the chapter’s joint national & chapter membership percentage as of December 31, 2009, must have been over 50 percent. The Alaska Chapter Board joint membership percentage was 65%, which exceeded the 30 percent Chapter Operating Requirement (CORE).

This is an outstanding achievement & shows the chapter’s commitment to informing members of the benefits of both ASTD national & the local chapter.

April 2009: Alaska named ASTD Chapter of the Month
    - We were informed by the national office of ASTD that the Alaska Chapter was selected for recognition in April! This award is predicated on completion of all CORE requirements (for management of the chapter) plus submission of a winning best practice (Share Our Success program). Alaska Chapter Gains National Recognition
The chapter received an SOS Award (Share Our Success) from national ASTD for demonstrating best practices in meeting management. The SOS program helps chapters improve through sharing and finding easy-to-use ideas, resources, and practices in the areas of communication, contribution to the community, membership, and the development of programs, products, and services. This November 2008 accolade is the second SOS for the Alaska Chapter. National members can read more on the national ASTD site. Achieving SOS recognition plus being CORE compliance (annual quality assurance program) puts the chapter in the running for Chapter of the Month recognition.
What is the "Power of 2?"
When ASTD members join both the national organization and their chapter, they choose to be knowledge leaders in the workplace learning and performance (WLP) profession and change makers in their own backyard. Joint membership offers WLP professionals a unique opportunity to connect with local, national, and international professionals. Joint members can learn about trends in the field, and gain access to research, principles, practices, and templates they can apply directly to impacting organizational results, their community, and advancing their career.
Chapters with more national members have a stronger leadership pool. In addition, joint members tend to be more engaged in the chapter.

Chapter Incentive Program (CHIP) Alaska Chapter Source Code is 8124
